Our battle is not with flesh and blood, but it is a spiritual battle between good and evil. In any war there are casualties, but we must be able to endure difficult times, and even to risk our lives in order to fight that battle to spread God’s message. We must be able to endure the fiery darts of the enemy with faith and truth. We also need to remember that in our mission we must always obey the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ over the commands of men.(Acts 5: 29)
Through the gospel of Jesus Christ people learn the truth and are rescued from the deception of evil.
Mat 18: 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost…….Luke 5: 31 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. 32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
We must be willing to risk our own lives to spread that message in order to save the lost.
Mark 8: 35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it…….John 15: 12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you…….. Mat 5: 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you…….Rom 12: 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
So we’re to bring others to the knowledge of God, and to be obedient to our Lord Jesus Christ by spreading the gospel. In order to do this it will be necessary for us to enter into enemy territory and rescue those who are held captive by sin.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Our weapons are of the Spirit.
2 Cor 10: 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;……Heb 4: 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart…….Eph 6: 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
You shall be hated of all men, but you must not surrender.
Mat 10: 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved…….1 Pet 5: 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:……Heb 3: 12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God…….James 5: 10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
Our rewards for being obedient to the will of God.
Rev 22: 12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. 14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city…….Heb 10: 35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
What will happen if you succumb to the enemy?
1 Pet 4: 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?…… 2 Thes 1: 7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: 9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;…… 2 Pet 3: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
Love in it’s earthly realm is usually a one-sided affair in which one of the parties often gets hurt. Many – if not most people – are willing to even do harm to others if it’s to their own advantage. Even the nice actions of people are often done with their own ulterior motives in mind. A person who possesses true biblical love is usually the one who gets hurt in this present world, but the Bible tells us that our hope is in the world to come, and not in this world. Even this though becomes a secondary motive as you begin to love, and become perfected by the word of God.
